Jul 8, 2012 - A Las Vegas federal judge has released a foot-thick stack of government documents, adding details to a lawsuit brought by former workers at the Air Force's secret Groom Lake base. It also talks about some cool George Washington University's National Security Archive used a public records request to obtain the CIA history of one of Area 51's most secret Cold War projects, the U-2 spy plane program. It has an extremely long runway, so it obviously existed -- but the work being done there (spy planes/advanced planes/black ops missions) may have been so sensitive that the government would rather not overtly advertise the base's. One of the stealth planes did crash near Groom Lake, NV ("Area 51"). The CIA declassified its association with Area 51 in 2010, which allowed officials like the Agency's historian to openly use the term in public and made it unnecessary to redact "Area 51" and "Groom Lake" from declassified documents. Oct 5, 2013 - This is the Groom Lake flight test facility, known as Area 51, also known as Dreamland or Paradise Ranch. Aug 16, 2013 - The CIA history released Thursday not only refers to Area 51 by name and describes some of the aviation activities that took place there, but locates the Air Force base on a map, along the dry Groom Lake bed. Apr 2, 2012 - So imagine my surprise (and dismay) to read in the weekly E-Skeptic of March 28, 2012 a totally uncritical review of Leslie Kean's book UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record. Secret stuff used to get tested at Edwards AFB in the Mojave Desert, but they moved the most important stuff to Groom Lake because Edwards is simply too close to Los Angeles.
