I've read Blood Meridian twice now, and I'm sure I will read it again. I've been meaning to read Cormac McCarthy for a long time. A week reading material in McCarthy's archives taught me that early on, Blood Meridian was merely McCarthy's pet project—a Southerner's first crack at a Western. My love affair with westerns started in university when I was introduced to Cormac McCarthy for the first time. Cormac McCarthy is a ridiculously talented writer and Blood Meridian is considered by many to be his defining work (thus far). Cormac's trademark staccoto prose makes it difficult to pull together a grander It's so hard to explain but I can't recommend it highly enough. Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian. That is to say it is violence and mayhem written in stunning, beautiful prose. The Road is also one of my favorites, but I agree that Blood Meridian is McCarthy's masterpiece. Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West, by Cormac McCarthy. Though I'm a bit discouraged by how unpleasant I found the (apparently milder) violence in No Country for Old Men, I do still intend to read Blood Meridian. For Blood Meridian, the end is the end of the Mexican War and the destruction of humans and things in its aftermath, when the US-Mexican border was redefined. My course required that I read Blood Meridian. Blood Meridan is a classic and deserves to be read, just make sure that you have an empty stomach. Episodic yet hypnotic, Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridan defies classification or explanation, which makes its status as a masterpiece difficult to explain but easy to understand. Blood Meridian is a western as imagined by lunatic and written by a poet.
